Open DiskFold, choose a folder or volume through the macOS file picker, and select any Halo sector to inspect it. Double-click a folder to enter it; use Back, Forward, or Up to travel through the hierarchy.
Scanning and coverage
Why is a scan marked partial?
macOS permissions and file-system controls can make parts of a selected source unreadable. DiskFold keeps every readable result and marks incomplete coverage instead of guessing the hidden size.
Can I use DiskFold before the scan finishes?
Yes. Progressive results appear while deeper folders continue scanning. Sizes shown during the scan are provisional and settle when the source completes.
Why did a file disappear or change size?
The file system can change during a scan. Apps may create, move, resize, or remove files while DiskFold is reading metadata. Rescan the source for a current snapshot.
Does DiskFold scan outside the folder I choose?
No. DiskFold uses the scope granted by the macOS system file chooser and does not crawl unrelated locations.
Understanding sizes
Why does the total differ from Finder or System Settings?
DiskFold visualizes attributed allocated size from the completed scan. APFS clones, sparse files, hard links, snapshots, purgeable storage, File Provider state, and files changing during a scan can produce different totals in other tools.
What determines a sector's angle?
Sector angle represents the item's share of attributed allocated bytes within its visible parent. Small siblings can be combined into an “Other” sector to keep five levels readable and interaction responsive.
Why is moving a file to Trash not shown as recovered space?
Files in Trash still occupy storage. DiskFold does not claim that space has been recovered until you empty Trash yourself.
Review Tray and Trash
Does Review Tray move files immediately?
No. Review Tray is a session-only review list. Adding or removing an item there does not change the file system.
How does DiskFold remove a file?
After you inspect the complete list and confirm a separate operation, eligible items move through the public macOS system Trash API. DiskFold has no permanent-delete fallback.
Why can an item be rejected at confirmation time?
DiskFold rechecks identity and access before the Trash operation. If a file moved, changed identity, became protected, or is no longer covered by the selected source, it stays in place and receives an actionable result.
Access and privacy
Does DiskFold require Full Disk Access?
No. You may optionally open its System Settings pane to improve coverage of protected locations. Without it, those locations remain unreadable and are reported as partial.
How do I remove access to a previous source?
Delete DiskFold's container data or uninstall the app to remove saved security-scoped bookmarks. Scan results and Review Tray contents are not persisted.
Does DiskFold send scan data anywhere?
No. DiskFold has no network entitlement, account, analytics, advertising, or cloud service. Read the full Privacy Policy.
